About the film

A 65-year-old man trudges along the lanes and bylanes of a city. 'Ripples Under the Skin' tells the story of the city that lurks behind the glitz and glamour of today’s Calcutta as it follows a community of migrant workers who came to this city to make a living. The city never invited them, yet somehow, they made it home, even as ‘home’ remains elusive. The city that nourishes, and waters itself through the toils of people like Nazim chacha, yet conveniently forgets and casts them away when it chooses to walk towards the future.

About the director

Farha Khatun is a Kolkata-based filmmaker and editor. In her films, she engages with stories of marginalized people whose stories would otherwise get lost in a world where mostly power speaks.
