About the film
'Lailaa Manju' takes us into the heart of a middle-class Marathi family that is not as heteronormative as it looks. A feel-good drama-comedy, a mother-daughter story, and a film about acceptance, it redefines the changing landscape for queer coming out as a standard part of the human experience and Indian experience. The story takes place in the backdrop of the pandemic-induced lockdown. What happens, Lailaa Manju asks, when the 'new normal' is not just our new place in the world — but in each other's eyes?
About the director
Kamya N is an independent writer-producer who has worked with OTT platforms, boutique production houses—writing short films and acting. She has also worked as a graphic designer, editor, photographer and artist. She is a Film Appreciation and Editing graduate from the Film and Television Institute of India. This is her first feature film.
