About the film

Bonnie is on the run again. He has been on the run from his family and sports fraternity since failing a ‘ sex test’ right before the Bangkok Asian Games in 1998. A born intersex, raised by poor, illiterate and confused parents as a female child named ‘Bandana ‘, s/he went on to become one of the finest strikers in Indian women’ s football in her/his short career. After failing sex test, media accused her/him of cheating. Bandana decided to undergo Sex Re-assignment Surgery (SRS) and became a male-‘Bonnie’. But his family disowned him and he left home, moving to Krishnanagar and becoming an idol maker. He met Swati, fell in love and got married. They moved, fearing social backlash. His fight to establish his identity, struggle for existence met by a sarcastic society yet to learn to take ‘other genders’ seriously.

Director Biography

Farha Khatun studied Video Editing from Roopkala Kendro, Kolkata. She worked as an Editor in documentaries on Human Rights/ Social issues. Satarupa is a teacher of Journalism and Mass communication in Mrinalini Datta Mahavidyapith, under West Bengal State University. She has been a part of several Bengali Tele-films and non fictions. She has been working on human rights and gender identity for a long and also involved in several social services. More than a decade’s journey as a Cinematographer in the Documentary/Television/Advertising industry in India has encouraged Sourabh to tread the path of audio-visual content creation. Sourabh has shot Documentaries on Human Rights/Gender Identity/Social Issues.
