About the film

A decade after the violence that shook Gujarat in 2002, British and American victims Imran and Nishrin revisit the events as they continue their fight for justice. Nishrin is an American-Gujarati, whose father, the prominent Muslim MP Ashan Jafri, was killed during the pogrom. Imran, a British citizen of Gujarati origin, was on holiday in the state with his two uncles and a friend when they were attacked. Imran was the sole survivor. Meanwhile, Narendra Modi, the then-Chief Minister of Gujarat, is in the midst of his national election campaign, although he still faces serious allegations of complicity in the riots. As the British-Indian filmmakers travel through India, the UK and US, they speak to those on Modi’s bandwagon as well as his opponents, providing an intimate insight into the rise of Hindutva and the ongoing search for justice of the victims of the 2002 Gujarat pogrom, both within India and among its diaspora.
