ABOUT THE FILM
This is an account of the plight of tea plantation workers in Dooars, North Bengal. It is made in the form of a travelogue that follows a guide through the winding hills to uncover personal accounts of local people in a space where, despite its natural beauty often feels like shackles around their ankles. Neither can they live nor can they leave for a better life somewhere else.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
Growing up in a middle class Bengali nuclear family, visiting North Bengal and its numerous tea estates, spread across Dooars and Darjeeling were almost yearly occurrences. As a child, I barely understood the plight of plantation workers. It was not till my mother planned to move to Nagrakata post retirement and build a house there that I really got to know the tea plantations. The regular visits and close contact with the union there built my perspective and painted a completely different picture of the serenity of these valleys. I have tried to present that perspective-to show the hills the way I saw and experienced it-in the form of a documentary.
