ABOUT THE FILM
‘Disco Deewane’ follows the reunion of Shriprakash and Disco – one a celebrated activist filmmaker whose award-winning work has chronicled the struggles of marginalized communities, and the other a vibrant young music producer from a disadvantaged community who is pursuing his creative ambitions. The film weaves the artist, their subject, its politics, ambition, legacy and future together in the layers of a song that the two protagonists create together.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
The documentary film ‘Disco Deewane’ follows Shriprakash and Disco as they create a song together. Shriprakash is an activist filmmaker, who has made multiple documentaries on the rights of tribals and lower caste people in his home state of Jharkhand. Disco is a singer and music composer who used to work for Shriprakash in 2009 when Disco was 18, and had joined Shriprakash thinking that Shriprakash will be able to help him become a singer. However, Disco soon realized that Shriprakash wanted him to sing about revolution and for social causes. Shriprakash thought that Disco’s fascination with singing and writing romantic and popular songs was not reflective of the exploitation he was facing in society, and looked down on his art.
In 2022, which is when the film is shot, Disco has started his own music studio and has been producing music and music videos for YouTube, and has found success there, although he’s still financially weak. Shriprakash is in a midlife crisis, since the kind of films he used to make have now lost popularity, and he’s contemplating about his journey – both personal and through his films.
