ABOUT THE FILM
Amidst a volatile blend of religious strife, suppressed sexualities and divine sermons, a teenage inter-faith couple—one of whom is innocently entangled in a fundamentalist group—dreams an illusive American Dream. Set against Karnataka’s tense socio-political backdrop, it juxtaposes the interfaith couple’s intimate world with a fractured society rife with intolerance and moral policing.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Sarthak Hegde is a filmmaker and writer known for his hyper-stylized, provocative storytelling. Sarthak explores complex human emotions and socio-political issues through surreal narratives and striking visuals. His critically acclaimed film ‘Sura’ (2023) premiered at several international festivals and was nominated at the Critics’ Choice awards. He studied Fine Arts in Filmmaking at the New York Film Academy, Los Angeles.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
“Having witnessed and experienced the harassment of young couples in Dakshina Kannada, my birthplace, I felt a deep, lingering anger—one I chose to channel into this film. Rather than villainizing fundamentalist groups, we sought to reveal the underlying forces driving their actions. To me, these couples are gracefully audacious, their love an act of rebellion against societal norms.”
