ABOUT THE FILM
Can a musician exist without an audience? To find an answer, the film enters 6-A Akash Ganga, where resides one of India’s most renowned classical musicians, a matchless guru—Annapurna Devi. Maestros waited for years for her to accept them as disciples. But in the mid-1950s, she vowed never to perform in an effort to save her marriage to the world-renowned musician, Ravi Shankar, who had grown insecure with the acclaim she was receiving. Her disciple, Nityanand Haldipur, cuts through the myths to tell her story.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
“In a world where everyone runs behind immediate accolades and recognition, the legendary Annapurna Devi decided to shun the world to follow her path to spirituality through music. Why is her choice and decision hard to understand? For me, I come from a world where making a film is for public showing and their approval. Though it was not hard for me to understand her decision, can I, as a practitioner, do it? Can I exist without my audience?”
