ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Duttatreya Dey is currently studying filmmaking at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, India. He is interested in documentary and experimental fiction films which aim at exploring the transcendental nature of human beings and their locus in a constantly changing world. His first film ‘When the Earth Rusted’ premiered at the Dharamshala International Film Festival 2023 and was screened at the Kolkata People’s Film Festival 2024, among other film festivals.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
“Where does hatred arise from? How do unresolved traumas make their home deep inside one’s body? How does a person get trapped in them leading to a never-ending cycle of violence? These were the questions that were circling in my mind in the summer of 2021 when, during the pandemic, West Bengal was going through a hate-filled, fever-pitched election season. Our collective unprocessed social traumas were rearing their ugly heads, leading to a wave of communal and xenophobic hatred.”
