ABOUT THE FILM

A nationwide lockdown is imposed in India during the coronavirus pandemic. While all Nepalese migrant labourers are boarding vans to leave for their country, Hansi sees an opportunity to earn more money for his ailing son in the emerging labour crisis.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Diwa Shah studied Creative Writing from Durham University, UK. ‘Bahadur The Brave’ is her first feature-length film, which premiered at the 71st San Sebastián International Film Festival 2023. It won the Kutxabank New Director’s Award and the Silver Gateway Award at the Jio MAMI. Her second film, ‘Chab’, about third-generation Tibetan refugees in India was selected for the Screenwriters Lab by NFDC Film Bazaar and The Residence – Cinema de Demain – by Festival de Cannes.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

“I grew up in a small hill station at the foothills of the Himalayas—Nainital. There were a lot of Nepalese migrants around us since childhood, they had weaved themselves into our society and it was difficult to imagine the hills without them. During the lockdown, I witnessed their exhausting situation and it became imperative for me to pen their heart-wrenching stories down.”
