ABOUT THE FILM
Seventy-five long years have separated the Bengali people on two sides of an international border. Kamruzzaman Balark and Moulinath Ganguly, both accomplished theatre actor-directors; one Bangladesh born and the other from India, join forces with eminent theatre director Zahid Repon from Bangladesh to stage Rabindranath Tagore’s timeless play ‘Achalayatan’ (The Petrified Place) in Australia. Can cultural reunification mend the schism created by the historical division of Bengal?

DIRECTORS’ STATEMENT
“Like many Bengali-origin Indians, our families migrated from East Bengal (now Bangladesh) to West Bengal around the time of the partition of India. Our film parallels the ‘Achalayatan’ journey, to transcend barriers in our minds and to seek reunification in our shared cultural roots in today’s intolerant, conflicted world.”
