About the film
In 2011, Dalit Camera started its journey with one small digital camera and one volunteer, documenting interviews of victims of caste oppression both inside and outside university spaces in South. The first stories that founder B. Ravichandran covered were of caste atrocities in EFLU, Hyderabad, and attacks on the Arunthatiyar Panchayat chief, Krishnaveni, in Tamil Nadu. The first videos were typically shot on a small digicam, and uploaded onto a YouTube channel, the link to which would then be shared on Facebook. In 2017, DC is a website, a twitter handle, a YouTube channel and a Facebook page, apart from being a well known name in the documentation of anti caste struggles across the country. A loose group of volunteers, based across the world, operating with personal and borrowed cameras and two which were purchased through donations, DC is dedicated to providing a platform to all forms of anti caste movements of our times, and creating dialogues across people, places and issues.
